Arthritis (Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid, Juvenile)

The word “arthritis” is use to describe over hundred different rheumatic conditions that cause pain and swelling in the joints and connective tissue.

The latest study from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 70 million people, or almost one in three in the United States, reports arthritis or chronic joint symptoms.

Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is called degenerative arthritis or degenerative joint disease and it is the most common type of arthritis. The most frequently affected joints are those at the ends of the fingers (closest to the nail), thumbs, neck, lower back, knees, and hips. The risk of developing this form of arthritis increases with age but also from joint injuries either from sports, accidents or repetitive movements. According to the Arthritis Foundation women especially over the age of 45 are more often affected than men.
